After doing a dopamine detox in August mainly by deleting Instagram for a few weeks (I highly recommend this) I am back to using Instagram.
Thankfully, I’m using Instagram a lot less, mostly not getting sucked into reels which is my least favorite part of the app…
Now, to completely contradict myself, I did come across this Reel:
I love the reel's vibe and aesthetic, which caught my eye. This then pointed me to a podcast that goes into more detail about what a dopamine menu is and some ideas to build your own.
TL;DR a dopeamine menu is a list of things that give you that hit of dopamine but are much more fulfilling than sitting on social media doomscrolling…
I have been using this for the last few weeks, when I feel the urge to sit on Instagram, I pick something from the menu and do that instead.
Appetizers (Quick Activities you can almost always do, think 10 minutes to 15 minutes)
- A hot shower (15 mins)
- Take a walk outside (20 mins+)
- Journaling (15 mins)
- Work on my Spotify Playlists (15 mins+)
